OPENART is a contemporary public art biennial taking place for three summer months in Örebro, Sweden. The city center is temporarily transformed into a huge outdoor art arena creating unconventional encounters between the art and the audience. Participating artists are working outside the traditional frames with an opportunity to work big, outdoors and temporary. The exhibition invites a broad and curious audience to experience the art without an admission fee and regardless if they are acquainted with art or not.

We are searching for visual artists in all disciplines to apply with artworks that can be placed in the public space. We want a diversity of artworks that can challenge or transform the city with different conformations and concepts. The artist can apply with ideas to develop or already existing artworks. OpenART is an exhibition that takes place in the city centre and the art will be placed outdoors available for public interaction day and night during the exhibition period. This means the artwork exhibited at OPENART must be able to endure different weather conditions for three summer months as well as curious hands and bodily interactions. You can also apply with artworks suitable for indoor display but with a suggestion and aim on how to exhibit it in the public space.

We are a small team with big capacity and heart, able to offer technical guidance, support and assistance throughout the whole process and can offer workshop space. As most of the work exhibited at OPENART are temporary we aim to use material mirroring this when we or the artist produce artworks. This also applies for already existing artworks that might need alteration when being placed in the public space. When producing an artwork we encourage the artist to use materials that are less permanent or may be reusable. We have a large network of local partners to collaborate with when it comes to production efficiency such as cutting costs on materials and manufacturing. In our work we always strive to be climate-conscious. We work hard and also expect the artist to work hard and to be a sharp project leader of their own work with us as support. We strive to deepen the meeting between the audience and the artists by having more than one work, if possible, participating in the exhibition, from the same artist. This is why an introduction of your artistry and adding a portfolio with previous works is of interest in the application. Invited artists will receive an artist fee of 10 000 SEK and transport, travel, accommodation and production support.
